You've turned CSS off in your browser, or your browser doesn't comply with the CSS2 standard. No one likes to be lectured on their choice of browser--trust me, I know, I'm a Mac user. But if your browser is CSS-impaired, well, there are several standard-compliant browsers out there (I recommend Mozilla or Opera, for all operating systems). You might benefit from an upgrade. The choice is yours.
About Quietsiren
What began as a personal web site in 1997 bloomed into a freelance web design service in 1998. As I became less available for freelance work (due to time constraints), I had to rethink some priorities. Was it more important to push my own paid services and build a huge web design client base, or to provide a useful free resource service and offer my paid help on the side?
In 2002, I chose the latter.
"But wouldn't you rather make money off your services than offer stuff up for free?"
Well, I won't claim that I'm not interested in making money--because if I weren't, I'd offer all my services free of charge. The truth of the matter = my skills are valuable + my time is limited. As much as I may wanna do it, I can't help everyone with everything for free.
My compromise is to share some helpful knowledge, tips, and art while charging an hourly consultant rate for project-specific help.
"How come I keep reading 'I' instead of 'we' around here?"
Because Quietsiren is basically just I--err, me. Robin. (Plus the occasional outside web developer, contracted for specific projects as needed.) I own the domain, I pay the hosting bill, I develop and maintain the site. It's pretty much all me, babe.
"You don't use that 'strictly professional' language I read at other web design sites. Aren't you supposed to maintain a professional appearance?"
Yeah well, I'm a stuffy professional 60 hours a week; I'm allowed to cut loose every now and then.
Heh--actually, this is my basic demeanor at the office too. Being professional doesn't mean talking like a Windows 2000 operating manual. I'm told I'm a pleasant, hip, laid back woman who knows how to laugh, innovate, put her foot down, fight the good fight, and get the job done. "Stuffy professional" just isn't me--so it's not Quietsiren, either.
Quietsiren offers the art of web enticement. There are web design tips, tutorials, and solutions; a portfolio of Free Art you can use at your web site; and my custom art and web design services are available on commission. The goal is to help make your web site the best it can be.
